6-Day Wildlife & Gorilla Trekking Safari

This six-day safari gives you a rich mix of Uganda’s wildlife, forests, and one of its greatest primate encounters.

You’ll track chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge, glide along the Kazinga Channel with hippos and birds, walk among zebras and antelopes in Lake Mburo, and encounter gorillas deep in Bwindi’s misty forest.

This trip is made for those who want both big wildlife moments and the intimacy of forest encounters - without rushing. Each day builds toward a crescendo: that unforgettable hour with gorillas in the dense Bwindi Forest.

Perfect for travellers with a love for animals & nature. Comfortable lodges, varied landscapes, and plenty of photo opportunities make this a complete adventure.

Safari Details

Day 1: Drive to Queen Elizabeth

Leave Kampala early and head west.

First stop: the Uganda Equator, for photos and a quick stretch. You will then continue to Mbarara for lunch and then your final stretch to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

As you cross the park on the road to offices, keep watch for some elephants, buffalos, warthogs, and some antelope grazing quietly. Settle in for your relaxing evening at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day 2: Game Drive & Boat Ride

Early in the morning, head out on a game drive when the light is soft and animals are still active - waterbucks, bushbucks, maybe a lion pausing in the golden hour. You will explore the park for some hours and then return to the lodge for breakfast after which you can swim, or relax with a good book.

In the afternoon, board a boat on Kazinga Channel. Hippos wallowing, crocodiles resting, huge flocks of birds - it’s nature in motion. At sunset, return to the lodge, dinner, and rest.

Day 3: Chimpanzees and towards Bwindi

We leave the lodge early in the morning and go to Kyambura Gorge for a nature walk in this incredible forest that lies below the hot savannah.

We'll see many primates, especially monkeys and some chimpanzees. There are some caves some of which are known for bats or massive pythons.

From Kyambura, we'll journey towards the Kigezi highlands, aiming for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - home of gorillas. We'll reach in the evening, in time to refresh, and take in the surrounding villages, the Bwindi forest, and experience your first evening in this place called the Switzerland of Africa.

You will have dinner and prepare for the gorilla trek tomorrow.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi

Today’s the biggest highlight for the whole safari.

We'll arise early and head to the park offices for briefing about gorilla trekking, and with you walking stick, an experienced ranger will lead you into the forest.

The hike goes through thick forest trails and steep slopes and may take 3-8 hours depending on where the troop is, so be ready.

When you find the gorillas, every second counts: observing their behaviour, the way they move, the way they look. You will have one hour with them. In that hour, you can ask questions, take pictures, slows follow them about, as well as simply become present with the gorillas.

Return to lodge. Evening is for reflection, maybe swapping stories by the fire.

Day 5: Transfer & Wildlife at Lake Mburo

After breakfast, leave Bwindi and head to lake Mburo National Park. Drive through rural southwestern Uganda where you will see a changing landscape of farms, small towns, cattle, villages.

This is a short drive and you will reach Lake Mburo around lunch time. After lunch, head out on a wildlife game drive or boat (depending on your choice). Spot zebras, elands, impalas; birds native to the area.

We'll spend the evening at the lodge, relaxing.

Day 6: Walking Safari & Return to Kampala

In the morning, you will get to experience Lake Mburo in a way that is closer than most people do on a savannah game viewing safari - on foot. Since the park has minimal predators, the walking is possible and completely risk free.

You will get to see Zebras, elands, antelopes in a closer setting.

After the walk, begin the drive back to Kampala. Stop for lunch in a town along the way and arrive in Kampala in evening. Drop off at your hotel or continue to the airport. You leave with photos, stories, and a deeper love for Uganda’s wild heart.
