Safari Details
Day 1: Arrival & Journey to Kibale Forest
Youâll start your safari with a scenic drive west from Kampala. Rolling hills, winding valleys - let the landscape shift around you as your anticipation builds. After 4.5 hours youâll arrive in Kibale Forest National Park.
The evening is yours to absorb the forestâs hush, hearing its sounds, breathing in its calm. You will rest at the your chosen lodge for the night as you wait tomorrow's encounter with the chimpanzees and other primates in the Kibale forest.
Day 2: Chimp Tracking & Swamp Walk
Rise early, meet with your ranger, then step into the forest in search of chimpanzees.
Kibale is home to dozens of monkey species, forest elephants, and towering hardwood trees. Your guide will share so much knowledge and bring the forest alive: its plants, its calls, its hidden stories.
After lunch, head to Bigodi Swamp. Wander amidst reeds and water channels. Birdsong, shaded trails, unexpected wildlife â this is peace, nature at its subtle best. Evening at lodge, relax.
Day 3: Kazinga Boat Ride in Queen Elizabeth
Enjoy your breakfast, and then leave Kibale on a short road trip to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Once there, settle in, then take a boat ride along the Kazinga Channel. Hippos wallow in the water, crocodiles bask on banks, fish splash, birds wheel in the sky and elephants enjoy a drink of water, or splash. Youâll feel close to life in its raw, beautiful form.
Evening at Mweya Lodge, enjoying views and perhaps a dramatic sunset.
Day 4: Kyambura Gorge & Bwindi Forest Entrance
Early morning, head into Kyambura Gorge. Keep your eyes peeled for chimpanzees among vines, listen for rustling leaves. The steep walls of the gorge are dramatic and full of stories.
Afterwards, take on a drive thorugh the Kigezi Highlands as you go to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The forestâs canopy is dense, its air cool.
You will reach in the evening, equally excited and needing some rest and relaxing. You will rest at the lodge, and prepare for the big day a head - seeing gorillas in person.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
Wake early and go to the park offices for a briefing about gorilla tracking.
After the briefing, you're off into Bwindiâs thick forest in search of mountain gorillas. The hike goes through thick forest trails and steep slopes and may take 3-8 hours depending on where the troop is, so be ready.
When you find the gorillas, every second counts: observing their behaviour, the way they move, the way they look. You will have one hour with them. In that hour, you can ask questions, take pictures, slows follow them about, as well as simply become present with the gorillas.
Return to lodge. Evening is for reflection, maybe swapping stories by the fire.
Day 6: Return Journey to Kampala
After breakfast, begin your drive back toward Kampala. Itâs a long drive â about 10 hours â but the changing scenery eases the miles: countryside, hills, livelihoods, local life.
Stop in Mbarara for lunch. Arrive in Kampala in the evening. Drop-off at your hotel or airport. Youâll carry home more than photos: memories that last.
